The theme of this 23rd edition of the event is dance, and its influence on music.

Back in the Middle Ages, dancing appeared in royal courts and led to the creation of the first orchestras.

From the jigs and sarabandes of Bach to the minuets of Haydn; from the ländlers of Schubert to the waltzes of Chopin: over the centuries, dance and music have always been the closest of companions. Dance has also inspired some of the greatest works of the most famous composers.

Throughout the 19th century and beyond, composers have taken inspiration from numerous dance themes. Nowadays, you still cannot mention the influence of dance on music without bringing up the traditions of ballet, which reached a peak with Russian composers such as Tchaikovsky, Borodin and Glazunov.

This theme is guaranteed to hold endless surprises in store for audiences at this 23rd edition of the event!

Full details of the schedule are available on the event’s official website and all practical information can be found via the online brochure.

Tickets are on sale at the Cité des Congrès in Nantes (from 30th January to 5th February 2017) or online.
